Group therapy

We regularly start new groups. To register to participate in a group please call 480-349-3671 or email info@genderidentitycenter.com. We will connect you to others your age and set up a schedule that works for all group members.

About Group Therapy:

This is what you can expect when you commit to a group. Every week the same group of people come together for an hour to share and discuss important topics and experiences. Everyone involved in GIC’s groups are exploring gender identity in some way or they are a parent of a child who is exploring their gender identity. This creates a common bond among group members. Because of this commonality group members are able to relate to one another and understand each others thoughts and feelings. Through the group therapy process people make connections, feel supported by others, and get the opportunity to hear how others process life and gender identity. Each group also connects people that are in the same age range. Although gender will be a main topic of discussion, the group will also be able to share about their interests and hobbies. It is also a safe place to talk about experiences with depression and anxiety. The therapist will be there to facilitate and lead discussion with empathy and understanding. By the end of the 10 weeks, group members will have developed a sense of belonging and will know and understand each other. This type of support has proven to increase self confidence, decrease anxiety and depression, and improve overall joy and wellbeing.

New Summer 2024 Groups!

Parent Group:

We have a new parent therapy group starting at GIC! This group will be facilitated by Jordan Hicks.

· Who: Parents of queer/trans children, teens, and adults. We have room for 8 total participants

· What: Group Therapy: $45.00 per person per group therapy session

· When: Every Thursday from 6:00 pm to 7:00 pm, from June 6th to August 8th.

· Where: Gender Identity Center, suite number 140, in person (not virtual)

· Why: To build connections with other parents of queer children and provide a space to discuss parenting with an emphasis on understanding queer culture. This group will provide therapeutic support, education, and parental guidance. Participants will be invited to engage as much or as little as they want but will get the opportunity to share about their experiences and hear others talk about similar experiences, with the facilitated expertise of the therapists. This group is not limited to parents of young children or teens, parents of adult children are also welcome. If you know you'll have to miss one or two groups that is okay but please only sign up if you can commit to trying to be there for most of the Thursdays. Group dynamics form best when every group member is present each week.
